Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!-  Candy Slocum
Tuesday, July 29 from 9:45am to 11:00am

Candy Slocum is recognized throughout North Central Texas and the state, as a visionary and innovator for bridging the gap between business, government, and education.

Candy is Executive Director of North Central Texas InterLink, Inc., a regional non-profit business~education alliance that was named a Model Program by the State of Texas for impacting education programs in North Central Texas public schools.  Trained by the State of Texas through the Quality Workforce Planning initiative, she has 20 years experience as a Labor Market Strategist/Futurist forecasting occupations, industries, skill, and knowledge needs that will be in demand in the workforce of the future, and the trends that will change the workforce.  Public schools and colleges use the information provided by InterLink to development programs that will provide a skilled regional workforce.  Though she has provided labor market services state wide, it is the sixteen county areas of Dallas, Tarrant, and the fourteen contiguous counties where the greatest impact has been made.

A successful entrepreneur, she owned Candy Slocum Realtors in Dallas, which she sold to Merrill Lynch Realty where she graduated from the Merrill Lynch Management Academy.  She produced a national sales training manual using strategies she developed which match census data with sales techniques to the meet the needs of the market place.  During her real estate career, her peers at the Greater Dallas Board of Realtors nominated Candy as Sales Associate of the Year.

As Assistant Vice-President of Education at the Greater Dallas Chamber, Candy oversaw a business~education partnership that was cited as a Model Private Sector Initiative, by President Reagan.  She has developed partnership strategies through which business has impacted education in the State of Texas.  Through programs she has administered, the private/public sectors have contributed over $5 million and thousands of volunteer hours to education.  Through InterLink’s Skills Task Force, focus groups were conducted throughout the sixteen county region with business, secondary and post secondary educators and administrators, parents, and students during a two year period to determine the skills and knowledge that would be needed for future jobs, and how they might best be presented in the classroom to be challenging and rigorous.  The initiative resulted in a comprehensive report The North Central Texas Focus Group Report for Preparing a Skilled Workforce.

Candy currently serves as an elected board member of the College Mound Water Supply Corporation where she serves as the first woman president.  Other organizations on which she currently serves are: Texas Counselors Network Board; Board of Directors for North Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium, The Global EDGE Tech Prep; Weatherford College Tech Prep; Career and Technology Advisory Boards for Birdville ISD, Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD, Castleberry ISD, Garland ISD, HEB ISD, Irving ISD, Northwest ISD, Rockwall ISD, Weatherford ISD and; the Small Business Development Board of North Texas, DFW Health Industry Council, North Texas Commission Logistics Committee, and the North Central Texas Workforce Board’s North Texas Supply Chain Logistics Cluster.

She was awarded a Proclamation by the Dallas City Council for her contribution to the City where she served through the years as appointee on the Citizen’s Safety Advisory Committee, the Tax Equalization Board, and the Mayor’s International Education Committee.  The Dallas Independent School District recognized Candy for over twenty years of advocacy for the many roles she filled for the district and the Parent Teacher Association which included producing and hosting 26 cable television productions on education and the community for Dallas and Austin cable stations.  Two schools in her community awarded her State Life Membership in the Parent Teachers Association after she served as President.  The Career and Technology Directors Association of Texas recognized Candy as its Outstanding State Community Volunteer.  She was honored as an inductee into the National Technical Honor Society by Collin County Community College.  Candy is an Alumnae of Leadership Texas.  She served as a state appointee on the Texas State Neighborhood Revitalization Committee, and currently serves as an appointee on the Texas Education Agency, Career and Technical Education TEKS Writing Team.

She believes in the concept of life long learning and makes it a point to learn four new things every day.

Raised a country girl in the Panhandle of Texas, Candy stays grounded on a small ranch where she and her husband raise Black Brangus Cattle and Quarter Horses.
