  • Co-op Employer Guidelines Getting Started

Benefits

Numerous company benefits do not contribute greatly toward a quality co-op/intern experience for students.  However, they may evidence a strong perceived importance to co-op/internships which will foster a quality program.  All co-op/internship students are paid a wage commensurate with the position duties assumed and level of education attained.  WTAMU will provide statistics on pay rates, however, actual negotiations are between the employer and the student.

A quality program clearly states its benefits in writing, such as:

  • Assistance with obtaining housing
  • Relocation reimbursement/allowance
  • Group insurance and any associated costs
  • Paid sick leave.
  • Eligibility to use credit union, recreation facilities, etc.
  • Bonus or other recognition for contributions.
  • Tuition reimbursement for the co-op/intern course.
  • Tuition reimbursement for "night-classes"
  • Holiday pay

The following procedures/steps may be utilized to establish and maintain the effectiveness of a benefits package:

  • Benefits packages of competitors for co-op/interns should be surveyed periodically and appropriate actions implemented.
  • Encourage schools to survey employers and communicate composite results.
